Gav•ri•el is one of four major angels that, according to Jewish tradition, is standing around the heavenly throne (where God sits) and, besides serving God, is in charge of watching the four corners of the world.

The meaning of the name Gav•ri•el is ‘God is my strength.’

The angel, Gabriel, is only mentioned once in the Bible:

“And I heard a man’s voice between the banks of Ulai, who called, and said, ‘Gabriel, make this man understand the vision'”

Daniel 8:16

The other three great angels are Michael (Archangel), whose name means “who is like God?”; Auriel/Oriel (God is my light); and Raphael (God has healed) is the fourth major angel. Raphael performs all manners of healing.
