Today, our journey through biblical locations brings us to the beautiful Mount Carmel. The word “carmel” has two other meanings: 1. fertile agricultural area, 2. damp grain, unripe grain. The Carmel mountains sprawl between the coastal plateau and the Jezreel Valley, from Haifa to the south and southeast, and its height is up to 1,800 feet. On Mount Carmel you can find the most beautiful forests in Israel. The view from the mountain is breathtaking in any direction you look. From the northern ridge, you can see the whole Haifa Bay all the way to the Lebanon border. If you look to the east, you see the amazing Jezreel Valley, where many of the biblical battles took place. You can also see where the Book of Revelation-prophesied future battle will occur at the end times: Armageddon. If you look to the north, you’ll see the entire city of Haifa at your feet. From the western ridge towards south, you’ll have a great view of the coast. In short, when in Israel, you don’t want to miss this place. Mount Carmel is where the famous demise of 850 idol prophets took place by the actions of the prophet Elijah.
“And therefore send, and gather to me all Israel to Mount Carmel, and the prophets of Baal four hundred and fifty, and the prophets of the Ashera four hundred, who eat at Jezebel’s table”
A well-known city named Carmel is located in the U.S. in Monterey County, CA.
