Tey•man is actually the name of the country, Yemen, that is found in the Arab Peninsula, south of the Land of Israel. In the Bible, it only means south in its geographical context. “Son of man, set your face toward the south, and drop your word toward the south, and prophesy against the forest of the Negev” (Ezekiel 21:2).

The word ya•min means ‘right’ (the right-hand side), and it is used as such in the Bible, but at times it also means ‘south.’ It is very interesting because the word ya•min (right-hand side) sounds very close to the Arabic name of the southern country, ‘Yamen.’

“Then came up the Ziphites to Saul to Gibeah, saying, ‘Does not David hide himself with us in fortresses in the wood, in the hill of Hachilah, which is on the south of Jeshimon?'”

I Samuel 23:19
